Folate Receptor Antibody Test

FRAT screens for folate receptor autoantibodies. [R1]

   Before the visit

   Prep

   • Stop all folinic acid or 5-MTHF supplements 48 hours before the draw. [R1]
   • The day before, lay the ice pack flat in the freezer. Do not freeze the SST tubes or the kit. [R1]
   • Book same day FedEx shipping and check the drop-off cutoff. The lab doesn't receive on weekends or US holidays. [R1]

   The draw

   Draw

   • Label the tubes before the draw with first and last name, date of birth and date of draw. [R1]
   • Draw into the kit's SST tubes. Volumes are shown in the kit's workflow image. Follow the instructions in your kit.

   Right after collection

   Processing

   • Shipping in the SST: refrigerate at 4 C until packing. Do not freeze SSTs. [R1]
   • Shipping as serum in a polypropylene tube: freeze at -20 C until packing. [R1]
   • Spin settings are in the kit's workflow image. Follow the instructions in your kit.

   Get it to the lab

   Shipping

   • Put the frozen ice pack in the bottom of the Styrofoam, then the middle section, then the tubes, then the absorbent sheet and lid. [R1]
   • Seal it in the biohazard bag, with the requisition in the outer pouch. [R1]
   • Put that in the mailer box and then the FedEx Clinical Pak. Check "Exempt Human Specimen". [R1]
   • Ship the same day. [R1]
