Panorama NIPT

Natera makes the Panorama noninvasive prenatal test (NIPT). Panorama is a laboratory developed test performed in Natera's CLIA certified lab. [N1]

Panorama is a prenatal screening test that uses cell-free DNA from the mother's blood. Ask your provider which conditions your order covers. The blood comes from the mother only. [N1]

   Before the visit

   Prep

   • Natera's collection sheet lists no fasting or medication rules. Follow the instructions in your kit and your provider's directions. Store the kit between 65 and 86 F (18 to 30 C) before use. [N1]

   The draw

   Draw

   • From Natera's Panorama blood collection instructions: [N1]
   • Use a 21 gauge straight needle, not a butterfly.
   • Draw 10 mL into each of 2 Streck tubes, and fill both completely. If you can't get enough volume, draw an additional tube.
   • Let each tube take 60 to 90 seconds to fill.
   • If the vein collapses, you may need a second venipuncture with a fresh tube.
   • Order of draw is not published on the sheet. Follow the instructions in your kit.

   Right after collection

   Processing

   • Gently invert each tube at least 10 times right after the draw. Do not shake hard. [N1]
   • Do not seal the tubes with paraffin film. [N1]
   • No centrifuging. Keep the blood between 43 and 98 F (6 to 37 C). Never refrigerate or freeze it. [N1]

   Get it to the lab

   Shipping

   • From Natera's instructions: [N1]
   • Fill in the tube labels, then put the tubes in the biohazard bag.
   • Put the bag inside the gel pack to cushion it, then put it in the metallic envelope.
   • Put the envelope and the requisition form in the Panorama cardboard mailer, then put the mailer in the FedEx Clinical Pak.
   • Call FedEx at 1-800-GO-FEDEX to arrange a pickup. The prepaid label is already on the Clinical Pak.
