Overview
About this kit
Genova Diagnostics is a specialty lab that ships collection packs to providers and patients. Tests are activated at gdx.net/activate. [G1]
Microbiology #2300, Yeast Culture with KOH #2301, H. pylori Stool Antigen #2314, Yeast Culture #2317 and Akkermansia #2347. [G1]
The process
Step by step
- 1
Before the visit
Prep
- Wait at least 4 weeks after a colonoscopy or barium enema. [G1]
- If you took antibiotics, antiparasitics, antifungals or probiotics, wait at least 14 days after the last dose (28 days may be preferred after antibiotics). [G1]
- For an H. pylori add-on, stopping PPIs, antibiotics and bismuth 14 days before is recommended. [G1]
- Unless your physician says otherwise, stop rectal suppositories, enemas, activated charcoal, bismuth, mineral oil, castor oil and bentonite clay 2 days before. [G1]
- Don't collect during active bleeding from hemorrhoids or menstruation. Discuss medications with your physician. [G1]
- 2
Collection
Collect
- Some tubes contain a poisonous liquid under pressure. Keep them away from children and open caps slowly under a cloth. [G1]
- Wear the glove and collect stool in the tray. Don't let urine or toilet water touch it. [G1]
- Fill the orange-top tube to the fill line from different areas. Mix, cap tightly, and shake 30 seconds. Akkermansia needs only this tube. [G1]
- Repeat with the clear-top tube, which has no liquid. [G1]
- For the small swab tube, twist the swab tip in the stool until coated (don't scoop), mash it against the tube, break the stick at the notch, and cap it. [G1]
- 3
Right after collection
Processing
- Refrigerate the tubes in the biohazard bag until shipping. Do not freeze. [G1]
- 4
