Overview
About this kit
Genova Diagnostics is a specialty lab that ships serum collection packs to patients and providers. Tests are activated at gdx.net/mygdx. [F1]
Serum antibodies to foods. The same collection instructions cover IgE Food Antibodies #1000, IgG Food Antibodies #1001, IgG Vegetarian #1002, IgE Inhalants #1003, IgE Molds #1004, IgG Spices #1005, and Celiac Profile #1018. [F1]
The process
Step by step
- 1
Before the visit
Prep
- From Genova's provider guide: [F1]
- Eat a variety of foods for 2 to 3 weeks before testing (except foods known to cause severe reactions). Antibodies to a food may be absent if you have not eaten it recently.
- These medications may influence results: glucocorticoids, chemotherapy, other immunosuppressive agents, NSAIDs, anticonvulsants, omalizumab, and heparin. Do not stop any medication without your provider.
- Freeze the freezer brick overnight.
- Fasting: Genova does not list a fasting requirement. Follow the instructions in your kit.
- 2
The draw
Draw
- Write the patient's date of birth and collection date on the labels and attach one to each tube returned. [F1]
- Clean the skin thoroughly with isopropyl alcohol. [F1]
- Draw blood into red SST tiger-top tubes. Minimum serum needed: [F1]
- | Profiles ordered | Serum | SST tubes |
- |---|---|---|
- | 1 | 3 mL | 1 |
- | 2 | 6 mL | 2 |
- | 3 | 9 mL | 3 |
- | 4 or more | 12 mL | 4 |
- Order of draw: only SST tubes are used, so none applies. Whole blood volume per tube: not published; follow the instructions in your kit.
- 3
Right after collection
Processing
- Finish within 45 minutes of collection. [F1]
- Let each SST clot 15 minutes standing in a rack.
- Centrifuge 15 minutes at 3000 RPM.
- Transfer serum to the transfer tube(s) and discard the used SSTs.
- Place transfer tubes with the freezer brick in the flexfoil pack and freeze immediately.
